Privacy Policy
Your photo library stays local to your device during ordinary browsing. Beyond Pixels never scans, uploads, or transmits your photos in the background. A selected photo is sent for processing only when you explicitly tap the button to generate an AI description.
Overview
Beyond Pixels is an accessible Android photo gallery designed for blind and low-vision users. We believe that accessibility tools must respect user privacy. We do not sell personal data, do not display third-party advertisements, and do not track you across other applications.
Information the App Accesses & Manages
- Photos and Media Storage: The app accesses device storage solely to render photo thumbnails, organize albums, display the full-screen viewer, manage custom names, and generate descriptions when you select a photo.
- User Accounts & Authentication: If you use cloud features or credit packs, sign-in via Google provides a verified user identifier, email, and display name to sync your credit balance and single-device session.
- Notification Permission: Requested only if you enable notifications to receive important account updates, system maintenance alerts, or credit confirmations.
- Local Settings & Preferences: Preferences such as custom photo names, cached descriptions, visual theme, font size, animation reduction, and haptics are stored locally on your device.
AI Image Descriptions — Dual Processing Modes
Beyond Pixels provides two flexible modes for generating AI descriptions:
1. API Key Mode (Direct)
When you configure your own personal Google Gemini API key in Settings, selected photos are sent directly from your device over HTTPS to Google Gemini. Your API key is encrypted and stored locally in your device's secure storage.
2. Credits Mode (Managed Backend)
When you use Credits Mode, the selected photo is securely sent via encrypted HTTPS to our dedicated Cloud Functions backend to request an AI description from Google Gemini. Photos are processed transiently for the sole purpose of generating the requested description and are not permanently stored on our servers once processing concludes.
In-App Purchases & Google Play Billing
Credit packs (including credits_49 [250 credits], credits_99 [500 credits], credits_149 [750 credits], and credits_199 [1000 credits]) are processed directly by Google Play Billing. Beyond Pixels does not collect, receive, or store your credit card, debit card, or banking details. Transactions are authenticated using cryptographically signed Google Play purchase tokens verified by our backend server.
Third-Party Infrastructure & Data Sharing
Beyond Pixels does not sell or rent user data. Data is shared with trusted infrastructure providers strictly to execute core app features that you initiate:
- Google Gemini (Alphabet Inc.): Processes images and prompts for AI descriptions.
- Firebase / Google Cloud: Hosts secure authentication, real-time credit ledger synchronization, and push notification delivery.
- Google Play Billing: Handles secure purchase transactions and billing subscriptions.
Retention, Account Deletion & Data Rights
- Local app data (including cached descriptions and custom labels) can be removed anytime by clearing the app's storage/data (Settings → Apps → Beyond Pixels → Storage & Cache → Clear Storage) or uninstalling the app.
- You have the right to permanently delete your account, credit history, device records, and associated data at any time.
- To submit a deletion request, use our dedicated Account & Data Deletion Page. Requests are processed automatically in real-time upon submission.
